The Langlaagte Deep Village is a proclaimed heritage resource situated on portions of the Remainder of Portions 11 and 142 of the farm Langlaagte 224, Registration Division IQ, Gauteng.
The farm Weltevreden was allocated in 1861 to RG Badenhorst. The significance of the farmstead however lays in the fact that it was in the ownership of the descendants of the second owner, Cornelis Johannes Smit, since 1872, a period of more than 130 years.
The proposed development of the Dadoo Block on Erven 1170, 1171, 1172, 1173, 1174, 1175, 1176, 1177, and 1202, 1203, 1204, 1205, 1206, 1207, 1208, 1209, bordered by Commissioner-, Market-, Joubert- and Rissik Streets Krugersdorp, necessitated a Heritage impact assessment (HIA) under Section 38 (Heritage Resource Management) of the National Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999 (NHRA). The HIA was conducted by West Rand Heritage Consultants in 2008.
