Weltevreden Farmhouse

The farm Weltevreden was allocated in 1861 to RG Badenhorst. The significance of the farmstead however lays in the fact that it was in the ownership of the descendants of the second owner, Cornelis Johannes Smit, since 1872, a period of more than 130 years. The farmhouse is in an excellent preserved condition, which enhances its conservation-worthiness and motivates the declaration of the dwelling and original out-buildings as a provincial heritage resource.

The proposed development of The Gables Office Estate on the remainder of Erf 3828, Weltevreden Park Ext 25, situated on the corner of JG Strijdom and Tennis Road, Weltevreden Park, Johannesburg necessitatesd a Heritage impact assessment (HIA) under Section 38 (Heritage Resource Management) of the National Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999 (NHRA), which was conducted by West Rand Heritage Consultants in 2007.
